According to the latest statement released by X (formerly Twitter), the images posted by their users can be used by them to train models, so some people have started planning to delete their accounts on X and leave.
I learned about the platform Bluesky from some artists I follow.
Composition#
The content of Bluesky currently consists of several parts:
Official website: https://bsky.social/
Client, web client: https://bsky.app/
Information protocol: atprotocol https://atproto.com/
These parts can all be viewed in the GitHub repository: https://github.com/bluesky-social
Some Points I Am Concerned About#
First, when thinking of social networks emerging this year, I immediately think of the "Federation," such as Mastodon. And the AT Protocol they mentioned, which corresponds to the currently commonly used ActivityPub in the Federation.
I simply understand the differences between them as:
-
One: The correlation of information between different instances is greater, and the boundaries between different instances will also be weaker. You can create your own instance, but currently, the largest instance still comes from Bluesky Social.
-
Two: Regarding content moderation, the traditional Federation's most classic expression of moderation is to directly disconnect from the instance or delete it. Bluesky does not focus on these methods; they are more concerned with the arrangement of hosted content and the establishment of rules, and they will launch independent moderation services. (This point is still not well understood just from the description)
-
Three: Bluesky's content push will be more centralized in the first aspect, while the content push of traditional Federation comes from already followed instances. Bluesky's push algorithm is not limited to this and supports you in following the content you need through feeds. (Yes, it natively supports RSS)
-
Four: In the traditional Federation, your data is only hosted in the instance you are in, while Bluesky's joint hosting makes data transfer easier. (Closer to the ideal Federation)
The Relationship Between Bluesky and Twitter#
(From the official website)
Bluesky was initially a project launched by Jack Dorsey when he was CEO of Twitter in 2019. Jack chose Jay to lead Bluesky, and Twitter paid service revenue to Bluesky to establish an open public dialogue social protocol, with the hope that it would one day become a client of Bluesky. Since its establishment in 2021, Bluesky has been an independent company. At the end of 2022, Twitter chose to terminate its service agreement with Bluesky, to which Bluesky agreed. Bluesky PBC continues to fulfill its original founding mission of "developing and promoting the widespread adoption of open and decentralized public dialogue technology."
